<<Just a quick note, Heather decided that the blog needed updating and since I haven’t been doing it on a regular basis she is now a legalized contributor!! –David>>
It is hard to believe it has been seven weeks since we arrived home with our little bundles of joy. Over the time I have been writing stories to share in my head. This morning I thought I would take the time to jot one down while the children are taking their morning naps.
Look around your home and decide what is the most precious thing you own not including family and pets. Hands down for me is the Pacifier/Soothie.
Going into motherhood I wasn’t going to use one of these things, but Mom betted that I only lasted less than 24 hours at home with Sam. Judge me not you mothers with strong feelings about how to take care of infants. With twins all of the “suppose to” statements are thrown out and one just does the best they can.
I have become obsessive about these little green things. It all started when we bought four of them, two green and two blue. It wasn’t until we got home that Dee pointed out that the blue ones are the next stage up, so they are a little harder. You would think this wouldn’t matter, but it does. You can’t fool the kids, they know. This left us with only two soothies for two kids…meaning we couldn’t loose one. Seems like an easy task, but oh no not in our family. Sam can be sucking away just content as can be, suddenly reach up and fling the soothie out of his mouth and throw it across the room. The scary part is the little suckers roll. Dee is constantly surprised where they end up. We just spent a fussy two days looking for a missing soothie that was all the way under the bed hiding behind a support board.
A couple of weeks ago, the kids and I were in Greenville staying with Mimi and Papa Jim. At one of the 3 am feedings, Sam managed to loose both soothies in 5 minutes. Luckily Jim was able to find them on the other side of the room under the suitcase. Don’t think I’m singling Sam out. Just last week, Ella and I were going downstairs to make the 3 am bottles and she spit her soothie out from the top of the stairs. It went all the way downstairs and rolled into the back hallway. During the last four weeks, Sam has been notorious for pulling Ella’s soothie out of her mouth, especially after he has managed to loose his. It got so bad we finally had to switch what side of the bassinet he was laying on so his free hand couldn’t reach her.
I should be thankful that neither kid will accept the soothie when it isn’t what they want. It is really cute when the soothie falls out during sleep and Ella works her mouth and tongue for a couple of minutes trying to find it before she lets out a frustrated cry. Thankfully, they are starting to suck on their fists and fingers, and Sam can hold his soothie in his mouth with his hand when he wants to. Hopefully another couple of weeks will find us less dependent on these green things, but until then…
